Rikard Ingvarsson asked:

Training a new pet dog is very important, but the advice we mostly get on how it should be done is usually mixed and incorrect. This article will provide you with some useful insights on dog training from experts, so that you and your new pet can build that special bond of friendship.

The first rule of dog training is to become friends with your pet. All dog lovers will tell you that dogs are the most obedient animals of all, yet we also know they can be extremely fierce at times. Dogs are friendly and obedient towards people they do not feel threatened by. Therefore, before you embark upon your dog’s training program, make sure your dog knows it is loved and being taken care of. Like human beings, dogs love to be pampered! You could start building your relationship with your dog by getting it a nice cushion in your own room so you can be around it more often. Also, try to rub its stomach and hug it as often as possible, and of course, give it its favorite treats: bones and dog biscuits!

Once you feel you are making progress with your dog with regards to friendship, training will become very easy. All you need to do is start your training by remaining within the boundaries of a fenced area so that in case your dog tries to get away, you can find it.

Dog training involves teaching your dog to follow five basic commands: sit, down, stay, come, close and heel. The underlying principle of dog training is communicating with your dog in a way it would understand. This is very easy. All you need to do is ‘reward’ correct behavior and ignore or correct incorrect behavior. You can reward your dog by giving it its favorite treat, but you have to remember that you should never use threatening gestures when you are trying to correct your dog for undesired or incorrect behavior. You could say “Bad dog” when your dog is not being obedient, and you could perhaps frown, but never hit your dog and never use force against it. This can not only make the dog feel agitated but it can also get aggressive enough to attack you back.

Start your training by getting a light collar for your dog and a leash that is about three to five feet in length. The collar should be loose enough so as to not make your dog choke, because that does sometimes happen, and it should be tight enough to not slip off. In short, it should be the right size for your dog. The leash should be long so that dog can walk at its own pace without making you tug or pull it or chase after it; dogs and humans both hate it when that happens!

When training your dog for a particular command, start by making a certain gesture that would remain exclusive for that command only. You could start by tapping your foot on the ground or by performing an action with your hands. This way, the dog will remember that every time you make this gesture, it means that the dog is required to act out a certain command.

Practice with your dog for about fifteen minutes every day, and then gradually increase the daily training time. If you feel agitated or frustrated any time during the training, do not take it out on your dog. Make it feel completely at ease and make sure it gets all the attention it needs.

What you truly Must know about the new and innovative anti-barking application known as “BarkOff” is that the consumer reviews are extremely encouraging. Puppy owners have prolonged been burdened with the inevitable difficulty of dealing with the barking puppy. Not just a barking dog; but a canine that barks continuously. Canines bark for a cause. It is their way of communicating with the globe all-around them. There are certainly situations when we want our dogs to bark; like warning us when strangers enter our domain. On the other hand, there are other times that barking can be unwanted and unappreciated.

Bark Off for dogs may possibly be the answer necessary when your dog won’t end howling at night keeping you and the whole neighborhood awake. The Bark Off software for dogs is absolutely battery operated and is designed to send out ultrasonic sound waves when the pet starts barking. The sound will not be audible to humans and it is not loud ample to drive your dog crazy. However, it is loud ample to make them end barking and pay attention. With a range of all-around 20 feet you can use this tiny anti-barking software in several locations. All you need to do is turn it on when you want to keep your dog from communicating a small as well loud for your comfort.

This device would perform effectively when you are hosting a dinner party or when you have that specific somebody above for a candle light dinner. Nothing creates dinner conversation a lot more unbearable than a barking dog trying to get their two cents in. The BarkOff tool is ideal for extended car rides or visits to the park. It could be that this product or service is endorsed by mail carriers everywhere. The software is triggered instantly when your dog begins to bark and makes a fine alternative to those shock collars floating around the Web. This is a tool that will calm your dog down without having causing any pain what so ever.

Many buyers report that this product or service was quite efficient maintaining their puppy quiet as they set on their back porch and relaxed following a long day. Buyers with little more than active or hyper dogs can benefit with the BarkOff software as properly. Just sit it somewhere safe near the dog and turn it on. Watch your dog automatically cease barking as they try to figure out what it is and where it is coming from. When they cease barking it will instantly quit sending signals. When they start to bark again it will start the sound waves once more. Eventually, your puppy will get the message.

We all love our dogs and this product is not intended to shut your pooch up forever. It is only made to provide you and your loved ones and close friends a break when you will need it most. The assessments are positive but the only way to draw your personal conclusion is to give the item a try. That is what you Should know about this BarkOff anti-barking item.

We all worry about our gun dogs and their safety. Concerns about what could happen if your dog was to escape from your yard and wander the neighborhood are normal.

Even the best-behaved dog is going to create havoc when running loose: even if it’s just digging holes or eating rotten things out of the street. Sometimes they just come home parents-to-be.

Many dog owners will put up a traditional wood or chain link fence to keep their pets safe. However, these fences aren’t always ideal. They’re not pretty to look at, dogs can get over or under it, and can cause the value of your home to decrease. This has a lot of dog owners looking for an alternative to allow their dogs to remain safe on the property and still have the peace of mind of knowing that their dogs can’t get into trouble.

More and more responsible dog owners are turning to electric dog fences to fill this need. These are designed to keep your dog safely in your yard without the eye-sore of a fence, the possibility of escape, and so forth. While some (wrongly) think that these electronic fences are inhumane, the facts are that these systems are designed NOT to hurt your dog. They provide a reminder, but not a painful one.

These electronic dog fences are a blessing in disguise to dog owners who don’t want the unsightly “typical” fence. The wiring is underground (just a few inches) and is all that’s needed to establish the boundary for your dog. A transmitter uses the wires to emit a signal that the dog’s collar picks up when the dog is within the boundary. Once out of the boundary (or attempting to leave it), the collar issues a correction in the form of a light shock—similar to the static shock you get when rubbing your feet on the carpet. These transmitters and wires can be located anywhere eon your property that’s convenient for you and your dog.

Originally, electric dog fences would fail quite often, usually because they issued a shock only when the dog crossed the boundary. Innotek’s system, however, contains your dog safely and effectively.

Innotek electric fences also feature increasing levels of electronic stimulation so that you can set lower level shocks for when your dog approaches his boundaries. And for more stubborn dogs who go past the boundary, you can set levels of shock for a set range beyond the boundaries for added safety.

With Innotek’s newer fence system, previous models are obsolete. Older models were limited in range, making it difficult for your dog to enjoy larger spaces for running and playing. Now, even the lower end Innotek systems cover as many as five acres, and the top model can go up to 25 acres, which is great for those who have large properties.

For owners of more than one dog, Innotek provides an answer. You can purchase more than one collar to be used with your electric fence system.

Summary

The Innotek electric dog fence system offers:

1. A humane way of training your dog to stay inside your yard

2. Peace of mind

3. Elimination of unsightly fencing

4. Cost effectiveness

Let your dog play in your yard, large or small, safely with an Innotek electronic fencing system today.

E. Corson Strand asked:

Training your puppy not to bite! What a shock to realize that your adorable puppy has teeth as sharp as tiny daggers. What’s more, it wants to chew and bite your fingers, hands and toes. In short, it is treating you just as it would one of its litter mates. However, you are the leader of the pack, and it is up to you to let the puppy that your fingers are off limits.

Believe it or not, training puppies not to bite, your puppy or any puppy, is pretty easy and shouldn’t be a problem, and that’s a good thing as it is one of the first things you’ll have to deal with.

Rule number one, when training any puppy do not scold or get angry. Do not punish it for biting. Remember, your puppy hasn’t yet learned that you are not really a litter mate. Some dog trainers suggest that you give a scream when the puppy bites you because that’s what a litter mate would do. The idea is that when you scream, the puppy will stop its biting. When the puppy stops biting, you praise it and give a treat.

That might work, but this is not what I recommend. In my opinion, I don’t think that imitating dog behavior is always the best methodology for humans to follow when training puppies. And in this case, I certainly don’t think it is the best method to train puppies not to bite.

Recommended: The puppy training technique that I recommend and have had success with time and time again is this. When the puppy begins to bite your hands, fingers, or toes, gently hold its muzzle shut until it begins to whine. Once it begins to whine, let go and let the puppy lick your hand if it wants to. Follow that routine whenever the puppy bites you hands. It won’t be long before the puppy stops biting you so that it hurts. In fact, the expected result is that puppy will rarely even take your fingers or hands in its mouth. Remember, however, always be very gentle and do not scold or rebuke the puppy in any way. An optional step to this procedure is to offer the puppy a toy to chew on after you release the muzzle.

This is such an incredibly simple method, that I am amazed that it is such a secret! If you follow the procedure described above, within a few days your puppy will stop biting your fingers.

Man’s best friend can bring a great deal of joy and affection to anyone who loves animal life. But there are also not-so-pleasant aspects of having a young dog, such as the instances that your pet doesn’t make it out the door before mature calls.

Oftentimes, it is simply a matter of the pets owner neglecting letting the dog out the door. Other times it is because the dog is too young and doesn’t know any better. There is one way of how to potty train a puppy that works better than most other methods. Piddle pads or dog training pads are available in with antibacterial action that decrease odors with sealed edges and leak proof backing offer better protection These pads are perfect for housetraining puppies, when leaving small dogs for longer periods of time or for around litter boxes and can be found at discount dog supplies.

One of the best ways to train a dog to go outside was by swatting him on the nose or behind with a newspaper every time that he went inside and putting him out into the backyard. This is negative reinforcement theory at work for potty training.

The only problem with that method of how to potty train a puppy is that it will likely make your feel terrible swatting your puppy. You may fell like an absolute jerk. Another method that absolutely works is that taking the dog out at the same time, three times a day. It works because the dog would get used to going outside and would do its business out there. That may sound great but who has the time? For stay at home moms it works since they have all day at their disposal.

Some try laying newspapers on the floor and gradually moving them closer to the door each day. The idea is that eventually the dog will automatically go to the back door where you can let him out.

In trying to determine how to potty train a puppy you’ll find that a little patience and a lot of newspaper works best. It may take a few days, but there is no negative reinforcement involved, and you do not have to worry about following a tight dog walking schedule. There are even special potty strips and patches available on pet supply stores for those that need their dog to go potty indoors.

Today I brought home a new puppy and am beyond happy. He’s an absolutely adorable Cocker Spaniel named Zeus. Of course, before buying Zeus I looked up all of the relevant Kentucky dog laws. It was no shock that certain vaccinations are legally required here. It makes sense–rabies can easily jump to the human population, and it’s just acting as a good community member and neighbor to have your dog vaccinated. But after I wrote down the legal requirements I had to take care of for my new puppy, I did some research on some other pet care basics, including what other dog meds I’d have to get him.

I really hate the idea of giving my dog medications. I try to live a very natural lifestyle myself. I never take medication unless it’s really an absolute necessity. I don’t even keep ibuprofen or cold medicine in the house. We’ve been around on the Earth for a long time without needing many of these medications. And frankly, it seems like most people overmedicate themselves, taking eight Advil or running to the hospital every time they have the littlest ache or pain. So now that I am a pet owner, I’m shy of having a different set of principles for my pet than I have for myself. It’s only in modern history and only in super developed/wealthy countries that dog medications have come into style. Canines have managed to live healthy, happy lives on their own for centuries. So why all of a sudden does half a pet owner’s budget have to go to medicating their dog?

I had no problem with getting Zeus his vaccinations. They are obviously necessary on both a medical and cultural basis. I’m not a religious zealot or anything. If my appendix goes wrong or I have a super high fever, I’ll go to the doctor and take all the help I can. But giving my dog regular prescription medicine from the very start with no sign of an issue seems going beyond this. The only medications that I know everyone recommends are some type of heartworm preventative, like this one, and Frontline Plus or another flea medicine. So far it looks like pretty much everyone and their mother says you should get heartworm medication, since the condition is so widespread and deadly. Fleas, on the other hand, don’t seem to be as much of a menace. I’m continuing to look into the situation, but that’s what I’m thinking so far.

John M Williams asked:

Your dog’s fur is a very important aspect of your dogs life, keeping it clean and in good shape is a good way to keep your dog happy, healthy, and clean. If you don’t keep your dogs fur in good shape it will only be a mater of time before tangles and knots appear in your canines coat picking up insects, pests, and causing discomfort for your pet.

Different dogs have different types of fur and with so many cross breeds and different looking dogs, naming all the different types of fur would be impossible. There are many different types of dog fur, some will look after themselves more than others but the general rule is that a longer coat will normally tangle and know easier than others.

To maintain your dog’s fur and keep it looking as it should, lots of grooming may be needed so this should be taken into account when buying a new dog. But grooming does not need to be a chore you have to do for your dog because grooming is proven to be a great bonding between owner and dog and creates trust and comfort for your dog making them a lot easier to train.

Step one is to get a good comb for your dog ensuring that there are no sharp edges and that your dog is comfortable with you using it without hurting him/her. Your vet or local pet shop many be able to help you and give you advice with choosing the correct comb but this will be a deciding point in whether your dog will enjoy you doing it or not.

After you have chosen your comb, grooming should happen often and you should do it thoroughly each time, ensuring all knots and angles are removed, if you haven’t yet combed your dog’s fur then it may be difficult to start so do a bit at a time to ensure you don’t discourage your dog and make them not like the grooming process.

After the initial combing, the more often you groom your dog the easier it will be, leaving it for long periods of time is not advised because this means it is more likely to hurt your dog when it eventually does get done. If your dog is finding it tough going then maybe a dog bath is needed to make it easier to detangle and add to your dog furs health.

So you want to learn to how to stop you dog whining? There’s anything about the sound of a dog whining that irritates most people. Whining can be a normal conduct that dogs use to whining to communicate that there is certainly a thing that they want. Puppies whine for the mother once they are hungry, and she returns to the litter to let them to nurse. Mature dogs, when and if they discover that humans can be trained to identical way will use whining to acquire what they want.
If your k9 is a whiner it’s important to take note of what you are performing if your dog starts to whine. It may start to whine when:
You are eating something the canine wishesThat you are outdoors or inside along with the dog desires in or out for being with youSet inside kennel or crateWhen it needs to visit externalAlmost certainly most owners agree that whining to go outdoors to toilet may be the only acceptable whining on the list. For this type of whining immediately let the pet external to go to the bathroom. Don’t engage in any supplemental play, but it could be acceptable to praise the puppy mildly for letting you realize that it desired to visit outside. Attempt to monitor this closely and anticipate once the dog requirements to toilet in order to avoid beginning a whining behavior.
Stopping your dog from whining. Removing this habit from your dog’s tendencies is extremely similar to the way you cease a kid from whining, ignore the dog while it really is whining, and attend to it when there is silence. Even telling the dog to stop are going to be giving attention, so totally ignoring is very best.
Moreover try:
Give numerous commands in a very row like sit, come, remain, down and so on to obtain the dog focused on a productive and favourable pattern. Reward the canine for completing the actions and devote some time with all the pet soon after he or she is quiet.Position the kennel or crate inside a room which is distant from you. This will stay away from the temptation of responding on the whining either verbally or by offering in.Make the kennel or crate a positive position. Place toys and secure blankets in it to produce it a pleasant place to get. Start out with short session and operate to longer so the k9 becomes accustom to becoming crated. In no way leave the puppy inside the crate or kennel for prolonged periods of time or being a punishment.Should the puppy only whines in specific cases appear closely at the scenarios to determine what is bothering the puppy and adjust them if achievable. Reward the dog for becoming in the situation with out whining.Devote added time with the pet when it is quiet. This reinforces the good habits. In the event the dog whines for no apparent purpose, or begins whining when eating, heading towards bathroom or when moving, instantly have a vet check the dog. Whining can be a sign of pain.Probably the most critical factor is to stop offering into the whining tendencies. If, at any time, you do respond to the dog when it’s whining, the k9 purely understands that it may be rewarded for the behavior. Stay firm and respond only once the k9 is behaving quietly.

Wycliffe Williams asked:

Puppies are so adorable. They love to frolic and play and can capture your heart before you know it. Sometimes they act like children with their antics. It is important though that you make your puppy obey your every command.

Obedience must be built into your puppy daily. As you go about instilling obedience, you are also learning about your puppy. The things that make him tick. They have personalities also. Take the time and observe your puppy at play.

Watch your puppy closely. Guide him; help him to develop a non-aggressive temperament. Make your puppy obey your instructions at all times. In many instances, its not aggressive dogs, its aggressive owners.

Owning a puppy can be a rewarding experience. I firmly believe that the key to owning an animal is being totally responsible for that animal. Depending on its breed, some puppies will grow into fearsome dogs.

This fact should always be taken into consideration. Puppies that grow up to be big dogs need to really be properly trained during its early life. Don’t be fooled though. Not only does a big dog bite.

Dog owners need to be prepared to give up their time when raising their puppy. The puppy will have to be fed and given water regularly.

Also your puppy has to be groomed, exercised and then there is the constant petting. But more importantly, during all of this, you must make your puppy obey. He must be properly trained.

The puppy you see today will not be the dog you’ll see in a few months. They grow quickly. The other thing they love is routine. If you are an habitual person; your puppy will love you. As he follows you around he’ll get to know your habits.

It has to be remembered, we do not have total control over a dog’s instinct. An attack cannot always be predicted. You can train your puppy using passive techniques.

That’s always good because you provide your puppy with non-aggressive options.
Whichever technique you adopt though, please be aware. It is imperative that you make your puppy obey your every command at all times.

I’m usually careful whenever entering someone’s home and a dog is present. The dog owner usually says that he doesn’t bite.

I always respond, “does he have teeth? Then he bites.”

While on the topic of dog bites, here is a Dog Owners Guide, (DOG).
I like to include at least one DOG tip:

Never leave your dog unsupervised around children. No matter how
domesticated you may believe your family dog to be, don’t do it.

Rambunctious children may spark a dog to attack in order to protect
the quieter child. Dogs play in different ways. Some are rough, others,
not so rough. To an infant rough play could be deadly.

So please parents and guardians of small children. If you must move
away from the children, take the dog with you.

Dog owners should be familiar with the risks of worms in dogs; not only to themselves but to other people too. Worms in dogs can cause ill health in both canines and humans: they are internal parasites.

Although worms in dogs do cause damage to their health, there are often no symptoms until the damage is already being done. Although worms in dogs are hard to spot, the symptoms to look out for are general loss of condition, sickness and diarrhoea. Roundworms and tapeworms are the two types of worms in dogs.

Roundworms

Pale white or beige in colour, roundworms look as though they are coiled like a spring and may grow up to 100mm long. They might be visible in your pet’s faeces or vomit. Roundworm larvae find their way into the dog’s body when they are ingested and adult worms then develop inside the dog’s body. Later, new eggs are passed through the dog in his faeces, restarting the chain again. Unfortunately, the most common type of roundworm is dogs is Toxocara Canis and it can have devastating effects on human children. If children eggs through contact with, for example, contaminated soil, the resulting larvae can move through their bodies. If they reach the eyes, the larvae can potentially damage the eyesight. This is one of the main reasons why dog owners should always pick up after their pet.

Tapeworms

Tapeworms look like flat segments filled with moving eggs which resemble grains of rice and which you may be able to see in your dog’s faeces or around his anus. Fleas carry tapeworm larvae so dogs become infected when they swallow fleas whilst grooming. Inside the dog, tapeworms can grow as long as 5m.

With worms in dogs, as with many conditions, it is true that prevention is better than cure. You should make sure that your dog is wormed every three months. Young puppies require worming even more regularly than that. Effective worming medication can be bought at either a pet shop or a veterinary surgery, but you should ask your vet to suggest the most appropriate one.
